What is a Micro Brewery?
A microbrewery is a small brewery with a limited production capacity which, produces labour intensive hand-crafted beers. These beers are often of a quality and style that larger breweries do not make. Because of its size a microbrewery can concentrate on the flavour and aroma of its beer. This allows it to produce a high quality hand-crafted product.
How is The Pump Room differnet from other microbreweries?
The Pump Room Brewery is located onsite at The Pump Room Clarke Quay. This alows the consumer to experience our beer at its freshest. All of The Pump Room’s beers are unfiltered, unpasturised, and have no added chemicals or flavours. Giving you the consumer a 100% natural, fresh, flavourful glass of beer everytime.
How is beer made?
Beer is made from four core ingredients; grain, hops, yeast and water. All of The Pump Room’s beers are made from only these four ingredients (nothing else is added). The brewing process has four main parts
Brewing (extracting sugar from grain and boiling water with hops)
Fermentation (adding yeast and converting sugar to alcohol)
Maturation (allowing the flavours in beer to fully develop)
Serving/packaging (getting the beer to the consumer)
Where does The Pump Room get its brewing ingredients from?
We import our ingredents from a number of countries including Australia, New Zealand, Germany and USA.
Where is The Pump Rooom Brewery from?
Hand crafted in Hamilton New Zealand by NDA. The Brewery consists of one 1,400 Litre brewing Kettle, (3) 3,000 Liter fermenters, and (8) 3,000 liter maturation tanks. The brewery is made of stainless steal and has a maximum production of 20,000 liters a month.
What are The Pump Room’s beer’s?
We have 5 resident handcrafted brews:
The Pump Room Lager - Golden, crisp, clean and easy drinking
Bohemian Lager - Darker with more hops flavour than most Pilsners
Scottish Ale - Hardy, roasted malt characters with a slightly sweet finish
India Pale Ale - Copper coloured, strong hops aroma, malty flavour
Wheat Ale - Pure white head, cloudy body and full of character

Who is The Pump Room’s Brewer?
Alex Chasko began his brewing career at Bridge Port Brewery, the oldest craft brewery in Oregon, USA, before moving on to the award winning Pyramid Brewing company in Seattle, Washington.
Alex then traveled to the prestigious Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh, Scotland where he completed his MSc. in Brewing and Distilling. After graduation, he worked for Diageo in Scotland working on malt whiskey flavor research. Alex has traveled the world in search of the perfect pint and has brewed beer on three continents.

Our Brewery is located in the Pump Room by the Centre Court fountain in the Foundry at Clarke Quay.
Functions and tours
‘The Pump Room Brew School’ Tours
Complimentary tours of the microbrewery are available weekday evenings from 5pm to 7pm. Each tour of up to five people lasts 20 minutes and guests can expect an informative session on the brewing process of beer, and a viewing of the maturation room. A ‘certificate’ will be given at the end of the tour to signify ‘graduation’ from ‘The Pump Room Brew School’, and a tasting of the five microbrewery beers. Advanced booking is required.
